Terms of service
These terms govern your use of GuestLot, a product of Moon Sherpa Labs. They are written to be read, not to be survived. If a clause below is unclear, that is our failure and we would like to hear about it.
The most important line is in section 7: GuestLot is awareness software, not a security system. It cannot stop anyone from driving a car.
1. What the service is
GuestLot is software for shops that hold customers’ vehicles. It records a custody window — check-in, the job policy applied, key custody, hand-back — and, where a vehicle owner authorizes it through the manufacturer’s own consent flow, reports vehicle events during the visit and issues an AccessReceipt to the owner at pickup.
GuestLot is not a repair service, an insurance product, an alarm system, a recovery service, or legal advice. It does not immobilize vehicles and cannot prevent a vehicle from being driven.
2. Accounts and locations
- You need an account to use the service, and you are responsible for what happens under it.
- A subscription covers one physical location. Additional locations need additional subscriptions.
- You are responsible for your staff's use of the service and for keeping your user list current — particularly for removing people who have left.
- You must be authorized to bind your business to these terms.
3. Subscriptions, fees, and trials
- Plans are billed monthly per location, in advance, at the price shown on the pricing page at the time you subscribe.
- Pricing is flat per location. There is no per-vehicle charge and no volume metering.
- The trial runs 14 days and does not require a payment method. It does not convert automatically: if you have not added billing by the end of the trial, the location stops and nothing is charged.
- Fees are exclusive of taxes. Failed payments may suspend access after notice.
- If we change prices, existing subscriptions keep their price through the current term and we give notice before the change applies.
Current pricing lives on the pricing page.
4. Vehicle owner consent is your responsibility
This section matters more than any other operational clause. You may only use the service in connection with a vehicle you lawfully have in your custody, and you may only initiate a vehicle authorization request with the informed participation of the vehicle owner.
- Never ask an owner for their manufacturer account credentials, and never enter them on their behalf. Authorization happens on the manufacturer's own screen.
- Do not misrepresent what the service collects or how long access lasts. The AccessReceipt is the owner's copy of that answer.
- Do not use the service to monitor a vehicle after it has left your custody.
- Do not use the service on your employees' personal vehicles as a condition of employment.
5. Acceptable use
- No use that is unlawful, or that infringes or misappropriates anyone's rights.
- No attempts to breach, probe, or circumvent the service's security, or to access another shop's data.
- No reselling, sublicensing, or white-labeling the service without a written agreement.
- No scraping, bulk export, or use of the service to build a competing dataset.
- No use of vehicle data obtained through the service for marketing, profiling, credit or insurance decisions, or sale to third parties.
We can suspend an account that is causing harm. Where circumstances allow, we will contact you first.
6. Your data
Your shop data and your visit records are yours. We use them to run the service, to support you, and to keep the product working. We do not sell vehicle data — full detail on the privacy page, which forms part of these terms.
You can export or request a copy of your data while your account is active. On termination we will make it available for a reasonable period before deletion.
7. Awareness software, not a security guarantee
Read this section slowly, because it describes what the product genuinely is.
- The service reports events. It does not prevent them. It cannot lock a car against a driver holding a valid key, and it cannot stop a theft, a joyride, or damage.
- Vehicle data depends on the manufacturer's platform, on the owner's authorization remaining in place, and on the vehicle having connectivity. Any of those can be absent or interrupted, and the owner can revoke at any moment without telling either of us.
- Alerts may be delayed, incomplete, or absent. Do not build a process whose safety depends on an alert arriving.
- Some things are simply not possible: no software can enter or exit Tesla Service Mode, and no software can remotely wipe an NFC key card.
- Nothing in the service is legal, insurance, or claims advice. It does not determine liability and does not guarantee any insurer will accept any record it produces.
We publish the same list, without the legal framing, on limits we will not hide.
8. Warranties and limitation of liability
The service is provided as-is and as-available. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every event will be detected. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
In plain English: if something goes wrong with a vehicle in your custody, the responsibility for that vehicle remains yours and your insurer’s. Our total liability for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the fees you paid us for that location in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for lost profits, lost business, vehicle damage, theft, diminished value, or other indirect or consequential losses.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; where that is the case, the limitations apply to the extent permitted.
9. Term and termination
- You can cancel at any time, effective at the end of the current billing period. There is no cancellation fee.
- We can terminate for material breach, non-payment, or unlawful use, with notice where practical.
- On termination, access ends and your data is available for export for a reasonable period before deletion.
- Sections that should survive termination do — fees owed, acceptable use, disclaimers, limitation of liability.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is material, we will notify account owners before it takes effect and update the effective date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the service after that date means the new terms apply.
